Translation grant for Swedish novel written in English
Dear Sirs,
I read in the forum that in 2022 you were not conceding grants to books by Swedish authors written in English. I write to inquire whether your policy has changed in this respect. I am considering buying Portuguese rights for the latest novel by Jonas Hassen Khemiri, which the author wrote in English. It is a very long novel (more than 600 pages) and it is unfeasible if we do not receive a translation grant. Portugal is one of the smallest book markets in Europe and sales of literary fiction are very low. To make things even more difficult, the author has been published before by another publishing house and sales were very poor. So if your answer is no, I will have to, very sadly, give up on the idea of publishing this book in Portugal.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.

Thank you for your inquiry regarding Jonas Hassen Khemiri’s novel, which assume is The Sisters (Systrarna). Since the original edition is considered to be the Swedish one, published in Sweden, you may apply for a translation grant. We have processed applications for this book previously, so there are no obstacles for a new application.
Kind regards
